Kids drawing ability, pictures and color choice

I recently found out that a child's drawing ability followed a standard progression. They start off drawing scrawls, then do upside down 'v' shapes and circles. Next they can draw squares and stick people and finally refine them to people with faces. Similarly with color choice - initially it's any color will do but eventually a choice is made to select representative colors. A really interesting progression!

Drawing Pictures of Rockets
by: Rebecca

Wow - my preschooler has been drawing "rockets" (upside down Vs) and circles. I had no idea there was a natural progression. Does make sense though, given other development areas have milestone steps. Now I have some idea of what he'll be drawing next.
Cheers, Bec
